Colfax, California · Established 2001

From a family basement to Main Street.

Basement Wines began by finding and cellaring California wines for friends and family. Today, Laurie and Lee Shahin continue that story as the licensed seller and fulfiller of Two Monsters—an extraordinarily small-lot family wine project returning for a limited cellar release.

Our story

It really did begin in a basement.

Laurie and Lee Shahin started Basement Wines by buying and storing wine for friends and family in the basement of their Santa Clara home. In 2001, the growing collection became an online business with a small nearby warehouse.

In 2003, they brought Basement Wines to Colfax and opened a wine bar, restaurant, and wine shop. The business expanded to lunch service in 2007 and added Main Street Pizza in 2009. Through every version of the business, the idea remained the same: share distinctive California wines in an unpretentious, welcoming setting.

That history continues today at Main Street Pizza — The Basement on Main. The restaurant and wine bar at 46 N Main Street is now home to the temperature-controlled Basement Wines cellar, where the remaining Two Monsters vintages are cared for and wine orders are prepared for fulfillment.

Two Monsters

The family label

Named for two kids. Reopened now that they’re grown.

Two Monsters was named for Laurie and Lee’s sons, Julian and Jaiden—the “real two monsters” behind the label. Early releases helped build their college fund. Years later, the boys are grown, the remaining wines have been cared for in the Basement Wines cellar, and the family collection is being offered online again.

The release spans Petite Sirah and the distinctive 2011 Barbera–Petite Sirah blend, including the rare 2009 Lost Barrel Reserve. Quantities are finite.
